Give your home an autumn mood boost

As the season changes, and cooler temperatures start to set in, why not give your home an autumn mood boost to get you through the hibernation months? Whether you plan on starting to move everything indoors, or you’re wanting to extend your outdoor living a little bit longer, these ideas will give you a cosy and more comfortable home for those lovely autumn days.

Light up the night

Lighting is a great way to bring a touch of warmth to your home over the cooler months. Lighting your home this time of the year is all about calm and colour. While natural light starts to wane, you don’t need to go overboard in lighting your home. The key is to consider the ambience of your home.

Vertical floor lamps are perfect for lighting up reading nooks and couches, table lamps are a great option for soft lighting in dining areas, and fairy lights look great in your living room or the kids rooms (a lighting chain in a decorative mason jar or vase can really warm up a room). For those who love candles, battery or electric candles give the same touch without the safety issues.

Warm welcoming autumn colour boosts

There are some easy ways to give your home a new look that won’t hit your budget too hard. If you have an indoor fireplace, now is a great time to get it going. It might not be overly cool right now, but as the weeks go on, that fireplace will not only bring warmth to your home, but a lovely mood boosting touch.

One of our favourite ways to add warm autumnal colours is to change up your pillowcases and throw blankets. These items are easy to store once the weather turns warm again, however the deep reds and browns will certainly help to bring a touch of colour to your home.

Adding art is a great way to change up the look of your home for very little cost. Choose boldly coloured abstract art for something fun to add to your walls.

Balmy evenings outdoors

Just because the weather is getting cooler, it doesn’t mean you can’t spend time outdoors. If you have the room, an outdoor fire bowl is a lovely touch. Add some comfy chairs and some warm throws, and you’ll be set for relaxing outdoors this autumn. If you don’t have the room for a fire bowl, some simple outdoor heating, portable or electric, is a great way to add the same warming effect.

Autumn is also a great time to get out in the garden. March is great for planting carrots, leek, rocket and bok choy, with early autumn perfect for brassicas including broccoli, kale and cauliflower.

Food to warm the heart

Who doesn’t love a great warming meal when the weather starts to cool off? For some of us, soup starts to appear on the menu regularly, while for others, it’s a chance to try out something new. Slow cooker meals are perfect for the cooler weather – pop the slow cooker on in the morning and by the time you get back from work, you’ll have a delicious and nutritious meal ready to go.

Why not try a slow cooker green chicken curry, a cauliflower soup with smoked cheddar or a warm chickpea and chorizo salad?
