Winter days out in Point Cook and beyond
Something for the kids
It’s family movie night tonight (July 6) at the Point Cook Library from 6pm, with free tickets available at the desk. Check the website for more details and future dates.
Get active
There’s no need to neglect your fitness this winter. If you’ve ever wanted to try martial arts, JKA Australia has you covered. They have various weekly karate classes, suited to all ages and skill levels.
Or you can enjoy a warming swim indoors at the Aquapulse centre in Hoppers Crossing. Their warm water pool is heated to a comfortable 34 degrees Celsius, and they also have a 50 metre and 25 metre pool and a spa, sauna and steam room. And for the kids, there’s the splash park with water slides.
For something more social, winter is the perfect time to get the family or a few friends together for a friendly and competitive session at Bowling Wyncity.
Listen to the music
Rug up and enjoy some lively busking sessions in the new open space at the front of the Wyndham Cultural Centre. These sessions happen every Friday throughout winter from 12 to 2 pm. Go along and support some of the area’s local artists.
Catch a flick and a meal
A rainy winter day is the perfect time to catch a new release, and at Pacific Village Werribee there’s something for everyone, plus you can enjoy a meal either before or afterward. This month, kids will be keen for the new Minions movie, while Baz Luhrmans Elvis is sure to be spectacular – see what else is coming up here.
Park life
If the sun decides to shine, why not rug up and take the family to Werribee Park for some fresh air? There’s so much to explore that you can easily spend the whole day here, including the heritage-listed Werribee Mansion set amongst gorgeous formal gardens where you can enjoy a picnic. There’s also a cafe where you can enjoy a warming drink and a bite to eat.
Get back to nature (and its creatures)
Winter is the perfect time to visit the Werribee Open Range Zoo as the animals tend to be more active in the cold. You can take a safari bus tour around the zoo and see wild giraffes, zebras and rhinos. They also have undercover exhibits such as the bandicoot hideout and the gorilla enclosure, if it starts to rain.
Gather round for a meal
At the Korean Grill House in Point Cook you can enjoy tantalising Korean flavours that are grilled at the table – a really fun way to go out as a family or with a few friends. There are also vegetarian options and a kids’ menu, meaning there’s something here for everyone.
There’s nothing like an Indian curry to warm you up on a cold day. At Kesari in Point Cook, they have over 130 authentic Punjabi Indian dishes for you to choose from – don’t miss the garlic naan and delicious vegetarian curries.
