7 great playgrounds in Wyndham City
Not too far from Port Phillip Bay, Wyndham City is growing thanks in part to families looking for more affordable homes that are still within reach of Melbourne and surrounds. With these new homes come plenty of playgrounds for the family to enjoy. Whether you prefer playgrounds with open spaces to kick a ball, or great equipment, Wyndham City has a lot to offer.
Here are seven of our favourites.
Universal Park, Tarneit
Located within Newhaven Estate off Tarneit Road, you’re probably not going to be getting the kids home from Universal Park too easily. If you have a climber, they are going to absolutely love this playground – nets, bouldering walls and frames offer climbing obstacles while a huge slide takes them back down to go again.
Once you do manage to drag them away from the climbing area, there’s a nest swing, spinning swing, forest garden walk and plenty of places to sit and have a picnic.
Barrabool Park, Werribee
This one is fantastic for summer play. Barrabool Park is located in Mambourin Estate off Black Forest Road and features:
- Two huge towers to explore
- Flying fox
- Nest swing
- Climbing wall
- Bike/scooter track
- Basketball court, cricket stump, footy posts
- Water play area
With BBQ facilities and plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy some lunch, pack a picnic and make a day out this summer.
Bayview Pirate Ship Park, Point Cook
You’ll find this amazing park on Alamanda Blvd. With a pirate ship parked on top of the hill, let’s start with that slide – a winner for both the small and big kids in the family. There’s also a mini rock climbing wall, rope ladders and crows nest. Out of the ship, the kids will find a sandpit and digger, nest swing and plenty of space to run around with a ball or footpaths to ride their scooter.
With a BBQ area and tables to sit, if you’re after parks in Point Cook, Pirate Park is great for weekends or for an easy, open-air birthday party.
Little Growling Park, Tarneit
Little Growling Park has something for the whole family, and is a great little spot to have some breakfast or lunch and then play in the playground. Stop for refreshments at Little Growling Cafe, (don’t forget the coffee), and then send the kids out to the spinning teacup, flying fox, trampolines and more.
If you sit at the front of the cafe, you can see the kids playing, or take your coffee outside and relax on one of the park benches. The park is accessible outside of the cafe hours, so if you find yourself looking for parks in Tarneit, stop in for some fun.
Grange Rocket Towers Reserve, Hoppers Crossing
One of the best things about Grange Reserve is just how spread out and open it is. There’s actually two playgrounds here.
There first is great for the younger kids, with:
- Small cubby with slide and steps
- Two swings, one with a toddler harness
- Climbing frame
- Fireman pole
- Spinning pole
Over in the second playground, you’ll find equipment that’s more suited to bigger and more confident kids, including:
- Two large towers connected by a rope bridge
- Large enclosed slides
- Plenty of climbing equipment
- A bee spring rocker
- Basketball court
Grange Reserve is perfect for burning the last of your kid’s energy.
Jubilee Park, Wyndham Vale
Another new one to explore, Jubilee Park is located on Memory Crescent and offers something a little different. There’s a real nature feel to Jubilee Park, and it is a good one for more confident climbers; there’s no ladders or steps up to the slide towers here – your only way is to climb the rope webs.
If you don’t have a confident climber or you have younger children, there’s plenty to keep them busy, with sandpits, swings, water pump and mini-trampolines.
Ashcroft Control Towers Reserve, Williams Landing
“Calling control – are you there?” Ashcroft Control Towers Reserve has taken plenty of inspiration from the nearby RAAF base. It’s home to a pretty awesome aviation-themed playground – and that central control tower certainly stands out.
Located on Mandrel Drive, the tunnel slide is huge – a few little birdies tell us it’s one of the best playground slides they’ve been on. There are some smaller slides for the little ones in your family, as well as balance beams, sandpits, a climbing frame and more. Even the seats will make you feel like you’re sitting under the wing of a plane.
